Snow storm today

Last night, we had freezing rain all night. I awoke to the rat-a-tap-tap of the ice pellets hitting my bedroom window. Wondered what the heck it was at first. It woke4 me a couple of times, but I drifted off easily enough again. By mid morning we had a snow storm. It was amazing, huge snow flakes, that by the end of the storm wee horizontal!!!! There was snow stuck to the side of the side of the 6 story apartment building across the road. cool!!!!!

Charcoal drawing of a walking trail in Dundas Ontario (wip)

This is a work in progress, of a walking trail, a very special place to me.
I took the photo a month ago when the leaves were all but fallen. I am drawing in my 6"x8" sketch book. I really wish it was bigger. I may paint it, but I will draw it bigger before I do. Just need to finish this first. I will get back to it next week I hope.

The Challenges on the blog .....

Hi all .....I don't think I will be joining in this time with the challenges .....I actually found that they were making me quite anxious the last time I was doing them ....especially when I didn't get working on it at the beginning of the week ....then I was rushing to get something/anything done just to show it......

I have also made up my mind to cut down drastically on my internet usage ..... I waste far too much time on it...... :(

I need to concentrate more on painting something that would be suitable to sell to the public. I have been caught out too often recently with nothing ready to replace something that sold. Last week I sold one in a local cafe and the manager said that he was taking over the shop attached to the cafe and did I have any more paintings that he could hang .... I had to get 2 finished and framed quickly and I took down two from my own walls to leave with him.

Then my friend who runs a B&B told me last night that she has sold one of my paintings ....of course I have nothing ready to replace it ..... it's just not good enough .....

So I am cutting down on all my internet usage .....emails etc ..... I shall still post at WetCanvas and have a laugh in the cafe but I really must try and only go there once a day ....maybe twice..... it's going to be difficult but I have to look on this art business as a job and try and make some money from it ..... I won't make any money sitting on my backside at the computer ..... I need to be at the easel .....

Happy Christmas and New Year everyone and Happy painting/drawing!

Annnd...back. :P

Hi ladies. I've finally made the move back to Arkansas. We've been here a bit, but just got settled...well...almost settled. I'm now looking for work and getting ready to start on my Master's degree and we're staying with my husband's father until we are both gainfully employed. Buuut...we're here. :) So, things should slow down soon and I should be able to start drawing again. I've missed you ladies and I'm happy to be back. Now...to get JJ back...hehe

Dust Storm

Absolutely blows me away. I have never seen anything like it over the city before, well not this bad. It is oppressive. The red dust have blown up from Western Australia. I have to wear my mask, as I am wheezing.. :-(

Sunday, September 20, 2009

Hey up everyone..

It is far too quiet around here.... :)

What have you been painting? Drawing? Doing??

Tuesday, September 8, 2009

Okay...I am no good at this!

There once was a fellow name Hugh
Who went to town on a mule
But it started raining and
The sky started falling so
He had to go home on a boat!

My feelings painting.....at last ....

I love the color yellow and how it makes me feel so I had a quick search about it on the internet and found out a little more about it .....

Yellow symbolizes: wisdom, joy, happiness and intellectual energy.
Put some yellow in your life when you want clarity for decision-making, relief from 'burnout', panic, nervousness, exhaustion. It also aids sharper memory and concentration skills and gives protection from lethargy and depression during dull weather.
On the downside ......people lose their tempers more often in yellow rooms, and babies will cry more. It is the most difficult color for the eye to take in, so it can be overpowering if overused..... so I won't be painting a whole room yellow!!!

I saw a big yellow lily painting on Wetcanvas and I decided to paint myself a big yellow flower .....
30" X 28"

Here it is above my computer ....

THIS WEEKS CHALLENGE

You must choose one word from the limerick you wrote and make a painting out of it.

Oh, and, I don't mean paint the word literally..:p

Post the painting Monday 14th.

Horrible Timing

I'm so sorry I'm late on my limerick, ladies. It's been busy here. If it's not drunk friends taking my attention, it's packing up the house and taking care of dogs. I haven't really even been able to touch a pencil the last couple of days. I think I may have to take some time away to get things done here at the house. We're still waiting to find out when we're moving, and our kids are missing us like crazy (I'm missing them much more though). Once we get a date, it's probably only going to be about 2 weeks from the day we get hubby's orders. So, basically, we're trying to get everything packed and ready that we're not using or is not a necessity before we get the date. Plus, I"m looking to go back to college, so that's yet another thing I'm dealing with here (online since I don't have time to go to a traditional university). So, until everything slows down some, I think I need some time. Once we get moved and settled in our new house (halfway across the country), I can join back in, if you ladies are still happy to have me. :) Until then, I'm going to miss you all. If you need to chat, or just want to, JJ has my messenger info and I'd be happy to hear from you. :D

JJ's Limerick

There was a lady named Anne

She was watching Ree climb a span

When Ree's pants split

Anne had a fit

and Ree's face went dead pan

My Limerick

There once was a young man called Eddie
For fun ....he was ever ready!
He slipped on some ice
It didn't feel nice
Now Eddie isn't so steady!

Paintings I have done at the Market

Most times I take my paints with me when I go to the market. I paint on 5"x7" gallery wrap canvas and sell them for $15.00 each.

This lot I did the last two times I went.. I have 4 market days left before I head overseas..

And I Really Have Been Drawing....

I promise. :) Well, sketching really. While my hubby had me hanging out over the past weekend, I did some quickish sketches. That and while we were at the emergency room waiting to be seen for my hubby's newly fractured pinky toe. lol At home, I've been working on that giraffe, but it's not making me happy..so anyhow..I guess I should actually post some of the sketches. hehe

The hand was the first. I spent probably close to an hour and a half on it. I used my own hand for this..but added a bit more nail. No, it's not the best, but the light kept changing and started annoying me. lol

The foot came next. I was wearing socks and shoes, so I couldn't see my foot, and just kinda guessed where everything went. Looks a bit cartoonish to me. hehe

The face (or half a face) was last. This was done out of pure boredom while waiting for my husband to be called back by the doc.

Puppy in Colored Pencil

1st or 2nd Colored Pencil I ever tried...Derwent Colorsoft on 10x14 Fabriano or something like that pastel paper. Takes a lot more patience than I thought and not as easy as pastel or even watercolor. The right eye does not have a white ring...flash from the camera I think...it is really the same color as the left eye.

Help needed with boat reflections ....

I started this boat last week and I need help with what reflections I would see in the water if it was quite still. I only have a picture of the boat on dry land but it has to be in the water for the painting .....
Any other advice would be most welcome .....
Thanks gals .....
I have edited it to include the boat on dry land ....

I haven't been painting or drawing because I have been ......

.....dancing at the Auld Lammas Fair yesterday and today ....for charity ....the local coastguards who depend on donations from the public.
Here are some pics .....I know y'all will want proof!!!

Elephant

I drew this partly this afternoon, and this evening. It took me around 6 hours, no more. This is one of the pictures in the Drawing and Sketching Forum on Wet Canvas for this weeks drawing challenge

Seagull on rocks

I drew this in my A3 sketchbook. Charcoal pencil, black and white for a couple of little touch-ups, and a willow charcoal stick.

This is a crop out of this weeks drawing challenge in the drawing forum.

Hiding From Death

A happy little work of fiction. I have no idea how I came up with it, but it got stuck in my head and needed to come out. This is what I've been working on for a few days..probably took about 5 or 6 hours total. Odd, yes, but I hope you ladies like it. :)
Graphite on canson drawing paper 9x12

Last nights drawing with charcoal.

I got itchy fingers, and I really needed to draw something, anything. So I went down to my studio, looking for my Conte sticks, I was sure I had several skin toned ones or the pastel pencils. Must have given them away as a gift, as they were still boxed. Never mind, I found my willow charcoal sticks, and my holder.

8"x12" on paper

My Painting for Today...Pelican

Pastel...9X12 Wallis Trying to take a drab photo and turn it into a colorful but believeable painting.

Two paintings framed.....

Here are 2 paintings I got framed for an exhibition starting on Wed .... each artist is allowed 2 paintings .....
I am still working om my feelings painting .... will post it soon.....

I'm Sorry Gals

I've been kinda in a funk the last few days. My kids are on their way to Arkansas to stay with my parents, we're still trying to figure out when we're supposed to move, and I've been sleeping half my days away. I've not gotten anything at all drawn since they left, and honestly haven't had the concentration to do anything. I have ideas for things to draw, but can't seem to sit still long enough to draw them out, so I just write them down on paper to keep them fresh. It's so quiet in here since the kids left, and I think that's part of the problem...I'm not used to it. lol I'm going to make myself draw something...even if it's crappy...for the next few days. Hopefully, that'll pull me out of my funk. I just wanted you all to know that I haven't forgotten any of you, and I miss you all.

Hey Guys

I am half back.....

I went to bed Friday sometime and only got up today (monday). I only got out of bed twice in that time, once to answer the phone to Ree, on Saturday night, (I forgot to take the phone to bed, but I was that sick I didn't care, and last night, my friend and neighbour Kim had cooked me a meal.. I couldn't eat it, it is in the fridge.

I am up to go get my paintings from the Ekka, and I have a Dr's appointment tonight. I am eating a bowl of porridge right now, help build me up a bit.. I feel awful still..

Painting for Today-Yokohama Beach, Oahu

I did this one this morning. It is in pastel (Unison) of course. I almost ruined it by starting out with a brand (Mt Vision) I hate and everyone else seems to love but thank goodness I was able to salvage it with my Unisons.

Pay particular attention to your values.

You have a week from today.

I played with this painting

I hated the ocean, really hated it, it made me nauseous, so I added colour to it.

It sold today ....

Some of you may remember this painting that I posted in the blog a while back ...it sold today ...someone bought it as a wedding present for a friend ..... and the shop owners wouldn't take any commission for it as it was religious (they would be a very religious couple)....they said I could put a little something into one of the charity boxes ....

I sold a painting at the Royal Queensland Show Exhibition.

I entered three paintings into the "Ekka" The show runs until next Saturday. I went in to look at the artwork today, and discovered this painting had sold. The other two paintings I entered are Golden Girl, My Sunflower, and Flying, the yacht painting with the coloured spinnakers. This one that sold, was Emotions II Acrylic on canvas. 24"x24"

There had to have been in an excess of 1000 paintings in there. In the watercolour section, first prize was won by a varnished watercolour glued to a black canvas. It was of a varigated leafy plant. Name escapes me at present.

Another first prize in the open section, was another varnished watercolour.

A charcoal, with yellow cp of a Grader, one the drawing section.

I can't remember what won the acrylics now.

No photographs today ....

I can't charge camera's battery as my son borrowed my charger recently ...I have ordered one from the internet ....so hopefully it will arrive soon .....
but I am working on the "feelings painting" ..... and it is a big one too .....
