DRAWING CHALLENGE DAY 50 (31-07-09)
Sorry I'm late posting the daily drawing challenge girls, I've had a very stressful day :(
I haven't finish the garden drawing yet either...
So, today draw something from under your kitchen sink! hehe!
New member
I have invited a friend of mine Linda to the blog. I have known Linda for around 4 or 5 years now from WC, she is doing what we are doing looking for inspiration. She will join our daily drawing and our weekly painting challenges too.
Looks Like...
...crap right now. lol Ok, so this is what I've been working on. I don't have it nearly even close to finished yet. Not even halfway. I was going to wait to show you all, but I got antsy. hehe
So, here's the first stage. It's a 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner..well, actually, it's only the front bumper and front shadow of a 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner. But once I'm done, it'll be the entire thing. :) I've only got a basic outline of most of the car so far (lines are too faint to show right now).
Once I get it much much further, I'll post it for you all to see. :)

Weekly challenge
This Weeks Paintting Challenge 30July - 7 August
A week ago JJ invited me to post this week's challenge on the 29th July. It is now the 30th and I for one did not meet last week's painting challenge.
Spring and Autumn are beautiful seasons, so this week select a flower/s or something leafy and paint it in any medium, any style.
Post it on Friday 7 August.

I tried ....
I painted
I am still sick, very sick, I slept on and off all day. I painted the background for this picture yesterday, and I painted the shoes tonight. The background in person is a pale pink and white colour and the shoes in person are a shiny cream colour. I have no idea why the picture is discoloured, like the yellow on the other shoes. I need to find the manual for my camera and recheck my settings.. 12"x16" acrylic

Painting under the influence of energy drink. Not for the faint hearted.....
That BHIP stuff is pretty powerful, if it can spark me up when I am sick, and I really am sick, imagine what it would do for someone not sick.. I painted these two paintings today both 12"x16" on double gallery wrap. I got a bargain last time I went to the Art Shed. I bought a box of 20 for less than the cost of the cheapies I was buying.. Pity I didn';t have enough money for two boxes..I should not have painted two picture, I am nuts as now I feel like death warmed up again. I didn't draw, as it is harder to draw than paint, I have to think to draw, and my brain was out to lunch....
DRAWING CHALLENGE DAY 47 (28-07-09)
As you all know, JJ’s on the sick list ATM, so she asked me to do the challenge for today.;)
So, here’s the drawing for today…:D
Take a piece of kitchen paper and scrunch it up, then pull it out slightly and draw the shapes you see.

DRAWING CHALLENGE DAY 45 (26-07-09)
I did not draw anything..
I am sick. I went to the market yesterday, barely stayed awake for the whole day. I got home at 4.30pm and went to bed. Didn't get up until 9.00am this morning, and I still feel like death warmed up.

Garage Object
Found this tube of Dielectric Silicone Grease among my husband's car stuff in our garage. Have no idea what it's for, but I liked the shape and color of the item. This is Inktense and water soluble graphite.
I'm happy to share my interpretation of the "garage assignment" with you, but would prefer to not receive critiques. Thanks!
P.S. I've come to the conclusion it's not the photographs that are "off kilter," it's the photographer!

Slightly Behind!
I have already fallen slightly behind but I blame it on the time difference. I will be catching up shortly on the garage item (already selected and set up in a shadow box on my desk for the the morning) and the "anything my heart desires" drawing. Went into the city today for a 3 hour figure drawing session. It was lovely.

DRAWING CHALLENGE DAY 44 (25-07-09) do you believe this was in the garage?
A bit late (Day 42)
I decided to draw this from the weekly drawing challenge. I'm off on the handle, though. I just couldn't get it right for anything. :( Oh well, I feel I did pretty well even though it took 3 days. ugh!! This is off of a picture, so I wasn't able to get the shadows under it. I think the light is coming from the front, so I'm thinking there wouldn't be much of a shadow, but I could be wrong.. It's happened once before. ;) hehe
Graphite, Canson Drawing paper, 9 x 12...ish. :)
TWO POINT PERSPECTIVE
DRAWSPACE is a great learning to draw website. You will find a heap of articles about technique and stuff there. Some good reading.
THIS ARTICLE is about 2 point perspective, we should learn it.
HERE is a complete list of all types of perspective, put together for WC by John Hagan. He is very generous to go to so much trouble and in such detail for out learning pleasure.

HOW TO PHOTOGRAPH A PICTURE/PAINTING
HOW TO PHOTOGRAPH A PICTURE/PAINTING
Lay the picture on the floor, in a good natural light source, open door way, or window, with no shadows or reflection covering the picture.
Stand over the picture, look straight down, and square it up with your view finder. Take the photo.
Or
Place your picture straight on your easel. Have your easel vertical, not on an incline. Put your camera on a tripod and square up the photo in your view finder. Take the picture.
Transfer photo to your computer.
Crop it in the photo-editing software of your choice. There are some good free ones out there, if you care to google for them.
You can adjust the colour in your photo editing program.
For pencil drawings use the greyscale feature.
For paintings, use the histogram.
To straighten a crooked photo, and it wont be crooked, if you take the steps above, use the perspective distortion adjusting tool.

Living Room/Lounge - An Ikea Lamp
Hi! JJ invited me to join your Daily Drawing/Painting group, so here I am. Thanks so much for having me along.
My name is Janine (aka "Daily Object Draw-er") and I live in Northern California, near San Francisco. In January of this year, I started drawing again after a 20 year hiatus. I also love to play with watercolors, Daniel Smiths being my favorite.
This is my effort in progress for today, an Ikea lamp from my living room. It's done with Derwent Inktense pencil, dark brown called "Bark," on Strathmore Windpower watercolor paper, size 6x9. I have not added the water yet, so this is the "before" shot. I will post the "after" shot... after! Apologies in advance. I am the world's worst photographer.
A few hours later, after adding the wash:

Todays Paintings 23/07/09
I am sorry the quality of the pictures is poor.. All paintings are 5"x7" I forgot to take a photo of the framed one before framing. I don't know why the pictures look distorted?? They look perfectly alright in person. They will all be matted and framed the same, in these delightful wooden frames I picked up yesterday while I was out shopping..
I need to tend to the giraffes teeth, they are a little dirty :D
PS
That giraffe, looks cartoonish in this photo, he doesn't in person. Go figure.. Must be the colour change in uploading, and bad photo.

DRAWING CHALLENGE DAY 41(22-07-09) No I am not a closet drinker.....
Tania has 3 bottles of wine stashed on the top shelf of my wardrobe. She said they are special, to her, good year or something, and she doesn't want them touched. The stuff in the boxes down in the garage is fair game, but I keep forgetting it is there. Sheesh. Oh well, I don't drink alone anyway, so I will have to invite her around for a roast chook dinner, and wine.. :p

First Revisit
Ok, so I really need to learn to work my photoshop thing. I'm horrible at it. This looks MUCH better on paper than it does here. Well, anyhow..I've drawn this 3 times now, and while this is the best of them, the letters are still off and I'm not sure how to fix them. I may have to draw this YET again. ugh..anyhow, this is from a class on Wet Canvas.
GAH!! The top is WAY off.. ~sigh~ One day I'll get better..promise. lol
DRAWING CHALLENGE DAY 40(21-07-09)

DRAWING CHALLENGE DAY 39 (20-07-09) Cake Fork revisited.
I was not happy with my cake fork drawing on day 31, 12/7/09 , so I took all the advisement I got from the Drawing and Sketching Forum folks, and I redrew it.

DRAWING CHALLENGE DAY 38 (19-07-09) I am watching you.... :)
I drew this guy at the market today. I used my pastel pencils for the first time. The reference photo was from a friend.. So, I drew it outside my house, and this is something Hey.. :D I am so tired I can't draw anything else today. I was up at 4.00am, and I didn't get home until 6.00pm. I am tired and sore. I did paint two little frog paintings, I will photograph them tomorrow and post them. I quite like them for a change..
P.S.
I didn't realise until after I had photographed this, that there is a watermark on the edge of the paper. Just as well it is a practice drawing.. This pad must have gotten water damaged, the time I was caught in the rain storm at the market.
PPS
The highlights in his eyes. I could not for the life of me get the white pastel pencil to work on top of the darks. No way was it going to show up..:( I forgot to take a pencil sharpener too, so couldn't sharpen the darn pencil either.. (makes not to put sharpener in market bag)

This weeks challenge
Is coming....... I have had a week, where I absolutely haven't stopped, every day, all things not arty too, except for taking my paintings over to the RNA Exhibition.
I have an idea in mind, need to process it more. I will give it thought tomorrow at the markets, and post it tomorrow night..
Thank you for your patience..

DRAWING CHALLENGE DAY 37 (18-07-09) Shot...
This IS in my Computer Room
Just clearing that up. haha I needed something somewhat easy tonight because I've been busy all day. It's actually a bit darker than it shows, but I guess my photos aren't that great yet..getting better though. :) I retried the cap, JJ...and refuse to post it because I got frustrated and threw the entire bottle away. lol So, here's one of the pencils that I use very rarely.

From the Laundry Room
Ok, so I don't have much of an imagination right now. So, here's my fabric softener. It took close to 3 hours and by the time I got to the lid, I was sick of it. lol I tried the blending thing this time, and I'm not sure that it turned out well, but that may be because I have absolutely no clue how to blend. hahaha But that's alright..at least I tried. Yes, it DOES have a bend in it on the left..oddly, they've decided to make bottles more interesting looking lately, I suppose.
Weird...for some reason, my darks aren't that dark on the photo..even after me 'fixing' it. So, apparently, everything is a bit darker in my sketchbook than it shows...sorry about that.

Yellow ...especially for those of you who hate .... it hahaha
Color Yellow
The shade of yellow determines the meaning. Pure, bright and sunny yellow is the easiest color to see. People who are blind to other colors can usually see yellow. Yellow is full of creative and intellectual energy. Always use yellow note pads.
Yellow symbolizes wisdom. Yellow means joy and happiness. People of high intellect favor yellow. Yellow daffodils are a symbol of unrequited love. Sunday's color is yellow-gold.
Yellow Energy
Like the energy of a bright sunny day, yellow brings clarity and awareness. The shade of yellow determines its effect: Yellow-green can mean deceit, and creates a disoriented feeling. Orange-yellow imparts a sense of establishment. Clean light yellow clears the mind, making it active and alert.
Put some yellow in your life when you want:
* clarity for decision-making
* relief from 'burnout', panic, nervousness, exhaustion
* sharper memory and concentration skills
* protection from lethargy and depression during dull weather
Yellow gem stone properties
Carry or wear yellow gemstones to promote the ability to express yourself. They are excellent stones for writers and public speakers to increase eloquence. The yellow stones stimulate movement and mental awareness. They are used to enhance decision making skills.

DRAWING CHALLENGE DAY 35 (16-07-09)
By request, we shall go to our laundry today, and draw something from there. Thank Ree. :-))
Toilet related thing
So, I had to send hubby to the store since we were out of toilet paper. I figured that you all drew most of the stuff I had and I wasn't about to draw the nasty plunger we have, so I'd draw what was LEFT of the toilet paper. :) Well, here it is...all that's left. lol It's really fuzzy, and yes, the top was misshapen like that. My photo wasn't that great, but it's a photo. :) lol
Ree's Challenge
Ree, Here it is although I am not a happy lassie with this one. I was trying for yellow, red and blue all just one small shift clockwise on the colour wheel. I set it up in a light box as instructed outside on a table, then sat on a very low stool in order not to block the sunlight, and then had to paint very quickly before the light shifted too much. Hence, no times for cups of tea between drying of layers and it all became rather"wet and wild".
That Makes Me Second......
....right? lol Ok, so I spent waaaay too long on this. And the banana changed a couple of times (it tasted really good though). I actually got it all to fit into my small light box, but because the banana was too much to resist, I had to finish the picture (mainly the folds) from a ref pic. This was a ton of fun! :D
Am I first?
