Rose in Square Vase

Acrylic on canvas. I drew the vase and the outline of the rose in graphic, and put the petals in with my brush. I had a ball with this. Not "loose" but it's a rose in a vase.. ;-) 10"x12" c&c

  3. Ok I will look at them again. I had three petals, but my signature has to go in on the right and that is 3 things. I dunno? Maybe I need to put the 3rd one back in. Lets see what Mimi and Bruce says.

  4. Better rose this time master...my only nit is the use of white to lighten the red. Better to use yellow to brighten andgreen to darken. Your square vase seems a bit wonky and agian you have ignored the bg, which is needed to ground your floating vase.

  5. Yes I ignored the background. There is a shadow under the vase and the petals.

I have found folks at the markets like paintings with white backgrounds as they match their homes .. sigh

Would you believe I used pink for the highlights..

The glass vase is wonky in person.

  7. Ok I see the wonkiness, sit corrected. I would still try to add some shadow somehow to ground the paitning.

But you touch on a subject which absolutley drives me crazy. White is the universal colour and people buy art becasue it "goes with their walls."

So much for appreciating art for the sake of the art.

I don't know if you remember the painting I did with the lighthouse on the hill, with a red barber shop kinda stripe. Well anyway, the person who I gave it to paid me the ultimate compliment. She said she was going to have to repaint the room to let the pic stand out. They are looking at colours now.

Yes but you made a valid point. I corrected some of it as you can see, but maybe I should have corrected all of it, as the viewer is not going to have the reference to compare the painting to, so they will see a wonky glass! Artistic license. Well being practical is more to the point. (I hope my roses last long enough to take more photo's) Those were the last ones in the garden, it was a treat to find them.

YES!!!! and I swore I would never paint for a market but just for myself, but myself paintigns are not selling. Bela's (the guy next to me) for the market with plain white backgrounds are selling. sigh. I think I might suggest a table in this painting though as it is bugging me too.

Now that is the ultimate compliment!!!!! Paint the room to match the painting way to go Bruce!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
