Hippeastrum

I thought I would paint some botanical art for my stall. People just want to buy paintigns that are clean and simple and basically no background.

10"x12" acrylic on canvas.

  1. Well give the customer what they want. It helps pay the bills, then go home and paint some art. Nicely done. I like the shadow showing through the petals. And I love the red.

  2. I got your pics of your stall in the market. You look like you are suffering so badly there, in teh sun and cold weather. Some perspective for you, we just got 10" of flurries here. It's heart breaking. Spring was supposed to be here. And more icky weather on the way. A nice way to send me off to the hosp tomm. God Bless.

  3. Well look on the bright side you will be tucked up in a nice warm bed, and by the time you are to go home, I will put in a special order for you, for a nice day!!!

Yes you are right, paint what the customer wants, and leave some time for some real art. That is exactly what I am doing.

That red is Napthol Red, over Azo' Yellow. I used Quin' Rose for the darks. I would ordinarily use magenta but I don't have any in acrylic at present.

I am not fond of using complementaries for shadowing, as they tend to look dirty. Especially red and green.
