Seagull on rocks

I drew this in my A3 sketchbook. Charcoal pencil, black and white for a couple of little touch-ups, and a willow charcoal stick.

This is a crop out of this weeks drawing challenge in the drawing forum.

Hiding From Death

A happy little work of fiction. I have no idea how I came up with it, but it got stuck in my head and needed to come out. This is what I've been working on for a few days..probably took about 5 or 6 hours total. Odd, yes, but I hope you ladies like it. :)
Graphite on canson drawing paper 9x12

Last nights drawing with charcoal.

I got itchy fingers, and I really needed to draw something, anything. So I went down to my studio, looking for my Conte sticks, I was sure I had several skin toned ones or the pastel pencils. Must have given them away as a gift, as they were still boxed. Never mind, I found my willow charcoal sticks, and my holder.

My Painting for Today...Pelican

Two paintings framed.....

Here are 2 paintings I got framed for an exhibition starting on Wed .... each artist is allowed 2 paintings .....
I am still working om my feelings painting .... will post it soon.....

I'm Sorry Gals

I've been kinda in a funk the last few days. My kids are on their way to Arkansas to stay with my parents, we're still trying to figure out when we're supposed to move, and I've been sleeping half my days away. I've not gotten anything at all drawn since they left, and honestly haven't had the concentration to do anything. I have ideas for things to draw, but can't seem to sit still long enough to draw them out, so I just write them down on paper to keep them fresh. It's so quiet in here since the kids left, and I think that's part of the problem...I'm not used to it. lol I'm going to make myself draw something...even if it's crappy...for the next few days. Hopefully, that'll pull me out of my funk. I just wanted you all to know that I haven't forgotten any of you, and I miss you all.

Hey Guys

I am half back.....

I went to bed Friday sometime and only got up today (monday). I only got out of bed twice in that time, once to answer the phone to Ree, on Saturday night, (I forgot to take the phone to bed, but I was that sick I didn't care, and last night, my friend and neighbour Kim had cooked me a meal.. I couldn't eat it, it is in the fridge.

I am up to go get my paintings from the Ekka, and I have a Dr's appointment tonight. I am eating a bowl of porridge right now, help build me up a bit.. I feel awful still..

Painting for Today-Yokohama Beach, Oahu

I did this one this morning. It is in pastel (Unison) of course. I almost ruined it by starting out with a brand (Mt Vision) I hate and everyone else seems to love but thank goodness I was able to salvage it with my Unisons.

My Painting for Today...A Cow

I haven't painted in a week. Deicded to get out the watercolors this morning and paint something. Landscapes aren't my thing...I never do good on them. I prefer to paint animals, people, etc.

Me? I am sick, still.

How about, everyone doing a drawing a week for the next week. I proper drawing, not a sketch.
Draw anything you wish. A portrait, a still life, fauna, just make it interesting and a complete drawing.

Pay particular attention to your values.

You have a week from today.

Have fun..

I played with this painting

I hated the ocean, really hated it, it made me nauseous, so I added colour to it.

It sold today ....

Some of you may remember this painting that I posted in the blog a while back ...it sold today ...someone bought it as a wedding present for a friend ..... and the shop owners wouldn't take any commission for it as it was religious (they would be a very religious couple)....they said I could put a little something into one of the charity boxes ....

I sold a painting at the Royal Queensland Show Exhibition.

I entered three paintings into the "Ekka" The show runs until next Saturday. I went in to look at the artwork today, and discovered this painting had sold. The other two paintings I entered are Golden Girl, My Sunflower, and Flying, the yacht painting with the coloured spinnakers. This one that sold, was Emotions II Acrylic on canvas. 24"x24"

There had to have been in an excess of 1000 paintings in there. In the watercolour section, first prize was won by a varnished watercolour glued to a black canvas. It was of a varigated leafy plant. Name escapes me at present.

Another first prize in the open section, was another varnished watercolour.

A charcoal, with yellow cp of a Grader, one the drawing section.

I can't remember what won the acrylics now.

No photographs today ....

I can't charge camera's battery as my son borrowed my charger recently ...I have ordered one from the internet ....so hopefully it will arrive soon .....
but I am working on the "feelings painting" ..... and it is a big one too .....

Todays Painting 09/08/09

12"x24" acrylic on canvas

The Sunday market 09.08.09

And Here It Is...

Ok, so here's my something leafy. It took probably 10 hours altogether. I hope you gals like it. Yes, it's completely odd, but it just kinda came out in a "my mind's blank" sketching session. lol It looks a tad different in real life, but that's as close as I could get in my paint program. Let me know what you all think. :)
This is graphite on canson drawing paper. 9x12 and it fills the entire page.

Sketching for painting

Not acceptable as a contribution to the drawing challenge I know. I have been concentrating on composition of late and watercolour techniques (as always) and my sketching has been directed towards that end. I find it useful to make a simple sketch , or often, more than one, until I feel that I have the right composition for me. it also helps me focus and think about what I want to do in the painting, the technique to use, the values, what mood I want to express etc. So this is an example of the kind of sketching I indulge in. I admit it is not a pretty sight but for me, very useful. This is the result of 2 days work, not continuously, but interspersed with other projects, gardening, walks and many cups of tea. Now to paint it! Therein lies the problem. If only it will turn out the way I picture it!

My Something Leafy

Ok, I promise I'm working on the something leafy thing. It's taking awhile because it's in graphite, but once I'm done, I'll upload it. Just wanted to let you all know that I'm actually doing some of the stuff on here. I would have been done the other day, but I didn't like how it came out, so I refuse to post it. lol Hopefully, it'll be done in the next day or so. It's all out of my head, but it's a lot of fun to work on so far. :)

My painting Sketch and reshoot of Pastel Plant

here's the plant redo. It isn't over until/unless it leaves the house so I may add more depth in the future.

Then my painting, which is just a sketch looking to make a larger painting with more staffing. I have such trouble with perspective so that's why I did this. I can't say that I learned a thing with this exercise so I think I really did it just to wet the brushes. Didn't take care with the palette either. Me bad. Comment if you choose to, because I will be interested.

DRAWING CHALLENGE DAY 59 (9 Aug 09)

This must be my last day ....surely .... and then you will all be back to more interesting suggestions .... hahaha ....so for the second day in a row ..... just draw something .....the main thing is that you do draw .... :)

Today's drawing

My first time using compressed charcoal .... so I drew my camera .... about 3" X 4"

Painting Challenge

Tiger Lilies are my favorite flower. I have wild ones planted in a lot of different areas around my home that I transplanted from an old farmhouse in the country. The colors in this look better in real life...I could not get photo shop to adjust the colors or contrasts the way they look in the original painting. This is pastel on dark gray colorfix paper.
