Late I know, but I told ya'll that I was catching up. Tonite I start the Momochrome challenge.
This is 8X10". acrylic on Canvas.
You know I said I'd never do another pointy painting, but I was in the mood to play. I tried hard to combi9ne colours to get another, but no way I could get brown easily. I went back to the Surat he3ad shot and blew it up and discovered to my dismay that he used fair amounts of yellow ochre and raw umber, in various mixes to get his overall colours. He used blue dots for the chin shadow and green and red in the hair to make it blackish.
But I wanted to try this one since the composition was simple. Unfortunatly the bird's bum kinda disappeared in the ground, it was not easy trying to get a greyish on the sand. I should have made the sand darker around the bird.
And this is what I did to the gift for my wife on our ninth anniversary (this week) I put two photos together and she is further back tahn me and JJ, the thing on my lap is a camera bag. 16X20" acrylic on canvas.
Something different. I painted these two trinket boxes. The are craft boxes made of very strong cardboard. I will take them to the market tomorrow, who knows...
I did this one before from Bruce's photograph but I did it on unprepared board as I thought it would be a hash of a painting. As it turned out I really liked the painting but because I didn't gesso the board I fear it will and maybe is already showing through the paint .... so I have done another one on properly primed board. Acrylic on wood 15" X 16
Late, but not forgotten, acrylic on canvas, 8X10 ".
I got started on this after breakfast and dropping off kids, etc. Took 2 hours of teeth grinding effort. There's a reason pointalism doesn't appeal to a lot of people. This isn't nearly as good as Ree's, but you never answered my requests girl, so here is my shot at it.
This weeks challenge is easy ...... choose your own picture to paint ..... but ...... it has to be a monochromatic painting. YOU HAVE ONE WEEK TO COMPLETE THIS CHALLENGE PLEASE POST YOUR FINISHED PAINTINGS ON SUNDAY 17th MAY
Well maybe it's nor a coolabah tree ......but I am sure you Australians will soon let me know if it isn't ...... I too loved painting this gorgeous bird ....a wonderful challenge .....thanks Colleen ....
I had an absolute ball painting this guy. I love the photo, the lights were magical, David is a great photographer! I painted this on single thickness gallery canvas 12" x 16" in acrylics.
It's Sunday evening. Time to post. I have used the photo to practise watercolour wet-in-wet technique, something that really interests me.
I took the photo a few years ago. There were two dinghy's on the Wynnum waterfront, a blue one, and a yellow one. I have painted them many times in watercolour, now I am doing some in acrylics for the market. This is a fun scene to paint.
I am JJ's grandson, and I am 11 years old. I painted this still life for my Mum for Mothers day. This is my first serious still life painting, I thought you all would like to see it.. Acrylic on canvas 10" x 12"
I have chosen this reference photo for three reasons: 1. the light, 2. the challenge of painting white tones and 3. I hope the portrait artists among us will be encouraged to accept the challenge. Please post on Sunday evening 10 May (local time). Enjoy! Colleen
This painting was a disaster from start to finish. For a start I didn't plan it out ........ I was trying to paint from memory as I had no ink in my printer and I never had a ref image near me when painting.....I know excuses excuses ..... I just can't paint landscapes to add to the ever growing list of things I can't paint ....... I guess my heart wasn't really in this one but I felt I had to do it for the challenge. I do love this scene and I may take my time and try to do a proper painting of it. I go walking here a lot .... there is a little path that runs right along the side of the River Tow....a very romantic spot to be walking ..... See if you can guess which one of the following pictures is my painting? ROFLOLPIMP This is so embarrassing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't think this is strictly impressionist, but it's close. I was going to do something simple but, I always seem to find a way to make things hard, so I started with hard and it turned out to be easier than I thought.
This is acrylic on canvas, 18X24, This is Grand Manan Island, New Brunswick, Canada, in the Bay of Fundy, known for its 60-foot high tides. The spot is known as the "Hole in the Wall."
Bruce, my painting is going to be late. I am exhausted from the Market yesterday. Was a good day. I have someone ill here too. I will post this week though.. :-))

Well here I go. This is a painting of a very small bit of my local paperbark swamp (lagoon, small lake, big pond) in Priests Gully where I walk frequently, particularly early morning and late afternoon - chasing the light. The watercolour depicts early morning light (6 am). I have included 3 photos for the non-Oz people to give you some idea of these beautiful swamps. The water is vey dark - mud sometimes but also full of tannins, and hence gives wonderful reflections. Photos first, then the painting, watercolour 25 x 35 cms.
