I am glad you guys had fun doing the pointillism challenge. It was a challenge, as it was supposed to be. It made us think about colour theory for a start. I can't say I learnt a lot by doing it, except that I need to go back to basics and do some more reading.
So what will Bruce have lined up for us??
Same deal all post of the same day nominated by Bruce..

So what will Bruce have lined up for us?? .....I'm trembling in my boots at the thought of it!!!!
ReplyDeleteHehhehehehehe, (rubs hands in glee)
ReplyDeleteActually a very easy one to compensate everyone for my manly behaviour. This may be tougher in wc, but I have seen it done.
To continue in the impressionist theme around the same time as pointilism, I would like ...to see everyone by Sunday night (local time)...wait for it...
Submit a painting of something outside in your home town done in an impressionistic style, ala Van Gogh, Monet, Thompson, Carr, Harris, etc.
No b&w please Bruce or anyone. I am especially eager to see how wc painters interpret life in this style. Good luck. And even I will get one this week, if I stay strong enough.
Now this I like. I could nip down to the coffee shop and do an impression of the folks down there.
ReplyDeletemmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Food for thought....
Take a look at the impressionists and do thou likewise...
ReplyDeleteOver the last 24 months I have studied the impressionists a lot, a friend got me into them. My favourite is still Braques.
ReplyDeleteTo paint abstract/impressionism, you need to know what you are doing. It is not a matter of throwing paint at a canvas and calling it done. There are things to know, plane - form - colour temperature for a start. Don't get me started on fractals.
Methinks I need to start reading about the impressionists ..... I'm off the net to start researching!!!
ReplyDeleteWell...now ya talkin' Bruce!hehe!
ReplyDeleteThis will be a big challenge for us all...we have to go read about Impressionist and then go a paint a masterpiece, that way too hard!! LOL
Yup research a bit and have fun. Ree, you don't fool me anymore, not after that poinilism piece, you are a gifted painter. You go girl...
ReplyDeleteThis is a great example of what I was aiming for. this from WC.

Is this what you are calling impressionism? and what you want us to paint?
ReplyDeleteImpressionist art is a style in which the artist captures the image of an object as someone would see it if they just caught a glimpse of it. They paint the pictures with a lot of color and most of their pictures are outdoor scenes. Their pictures are very bright and vibrant. The artists like to capture their images without detail but with bold colors.
ReplyDeleteSo, I just got to pai9nt a painting that is not quite finished :-P right?
ReplyDeleteThe link shows a impressionistic style of a street scene, not a perfect impressionist, like the early French guys but it is more gesture than photographic representaional type...I hope that is sorta clear.
ReplyDeleteBruce, that painting is not really impressionism at all, and no, I don't understand the rest of your message.
ReplyDeleteI think you need to do some serious research before painting your picture. Impressionism is a lot more than just leaving out some detail. Go read up about it today, I am off to bed. It is way past the bewitching hour yet again..
I shall be doing more research yet, I just like the impressionism of the paintng.
ReplyDeleteIs the Braques named above the cubist Georges Braque who worked with Picasso?
ReplyDeleteYes.
ReplyDeleteGeorges Braque was the inventor of cubism. He did work with Picasso, until he enlisted into world war I and together they developed the technique.
Did you know, that Braque was also influenced by the Impressionists, and Matisse and Derain, whose Fauve movement he joined in the early 1900's. His work was impressionistic, until he teamed up with Picasso, and then he developed cubism, which was his favoured style until his death in 1982.
All new to me. I was digging around in the web looking at Impreszsionism last nite and started a self portrait in imp style. It may or not be great but it's going good so far. Oh, it felt so good to sit and paint today, tiring but good.
